$25 Kershaw Scamp – Get It While You Can
The Kershaw Scamp 2710 is my go-to knife for everyday carry. Yes there are others, but the Scamp rides in my pocket most often. Honestly, I would pay double for this knife, but the good news is I didn’t have to and neither do you. You can pick up this blade all day long for under $25, and it’s worth it every penny.
The Scamp deploys super fast; as quickly as some of my assisted openers, and locks in solidly with a good thwack! The 3.375″ 8cr13mov blade takes a razor sharp edge and keeps it. The belly of the hollow ground drop point blade is great for most cutting tasks and the tip is sharp and precise enough you could dig out a splinter if you had to. The grey nitride coating looks great against the machined G-10 handle and gives the blade some additional rust resistance.
The thumbstud is perfect. It’s ambidextrous and has the perfect amount of traction for deploying the blade.
The Scamp is a frame lock design, so the backside of the knife has no handle scale, instead it bears the 440 stainless frame which also gives the Scamp its slim profile. The frame lock design and the blade size gives the Scamp some”healthy heft”. It has good weigh that feels good and sturdy in hand. When open, the Scamp is 8″ long and is just over 4.5″ when closed.
The pocket clip holds the Scamp securely in pocket and is positionable to tip up or tip down carry, but only on the stainless side of the knife (right handed). The clip also helps to stop overextension of the locking bar. I prefer tip down on this knife which allows for deeper carry.
I love the balance of this knife. The blade and handle are almost the same size and shape. It’s this balance paired with the phosphor bronze bushings that allow this blade to deploy so quickly and effortlessly.
Do yourself a favor and pick one up before they’re gone. You won’t find a better knife for the price.
Head’s up: The Scamp is no longer listed on Kershaw’s website, because its been discontinued, if you want one you’d better get one now. I contacted Kershaw and here’s what they had to say:
Unfortunately yes we have discontinued the Scamp, but we do still have a few in our factory if you are looking for one. If you would like to find one to purchase, you can look through out dealers or you can call the number located below [800-325-2891] and someone in our customer service department can assist you with your order.
I really hate to see this knife go out of production. I’ve ordered another one just to have as a backup. For the time being, you can still pick up the Scamp in plain edge and serrated versions for under $25 online.
