DIY – How to Build Your Own Alcohol Stove (Video)

If you are interested in a stove that runs on odorless fuel that is available almost any where, need to carry minimal weight, like saving money, and/or are Going Green – recycling and using eco friendly fuels,  then an alcohol stove is for you. This ultra-lightweight alcohol stove is a great option for backpacking and knowing how to build on of these little stoves could also come in handy in a survival situation.

This guy does a great job of explaining the build process in this short video.

Alright Macgyver, let’s get started.

Here’s a variety of stove’s that I’ve made. I’ve made penny stoves, and a few side burner stoves and even a large hybrid side burner/penny stove.

Only light the stove outside in a cleared area, and on a fireproof surface. Be careful when lighting, alcohol is very flammable.

Have your pot of water ready, and carefully place it on your pot stand. Make sure its seated well, so it doesn’t fall once the water starts boiling. Your stove should be able to boil 2-3 cups of water in 5-6 minutes. On 1oz. of alcohol, the stove should run for just over 15 minutes. While you wont be able to cook a 4 course meal on this stove, but its great for meals like ramen noodles, or macaroni, that only require boiling water. It’s also a great way to purify water.

There are many other variations of alcohol stoves, and DIY tutorials are just a Google search away. Let us know how your build goes, and share your photos in the comments or on our Facebook page.

  1. I pray throughout the day, usually short, informal prayers of all kinds, from thanksgiving to hopelessness. I know that when I am at the end of my rope, he knows the answers and I find rest in letting him know I will wait on him to reveal them to me. I honestly don’t know how people get through even a day without having him to go to.
