Benchmade MPR 755 Review

The Benchmade 755 Mini Pocket Rocket or MPR is one of the toughest manual folders I’ve seen. A stout titanium monolock design by Shane Sibert sporting a 2.9″ M390 blade. Overbuilt? Absolutely! This is the production version of Shane Sibert’s handmade Mini Pocket Rocket folder, and Benchmade hit the ball out of the park.

Folding EDC Blade MRP Shane SibertThe M390 steel has similar properties to 20c-v meaning good toughness, and superb wear resistance. Wearing checkered green G-10 scales. The materials aside, build quality on the 755 is impressive to say the least. Although it is short, it is stout, for which Mr. Sibert is well known, and built extremely tough.

Holding it in hand, the MPR is impressive, but not overly heavy, weighting in at 5.5oz. The handle, rugged as it may appear is actually quite comfortable. It provided me with a excellent grip. The handle is 3.8″ long, and .61″ wide, and feels rather substantial in your hand. The jimping and texture offer good purchase, but were not sharp enough to cause any fatigue during hard use. To be hoenst, the jimping on the spine was not sharp enough to offer functional grip. The pocket clip, also made of titanium, is well built, but offers little flex making it tough to use, but locking securely once stowed.

The blade itself boasts a hardness rating of 60-62 HRC, I expect, if I ever need to, diamond hones will be the only way to obtain a true finished edge. This is one tough blade. It shape is marketed as a tactical clip point, and proves to be a great configuration. I’ve found the shape to work rather well for any general cutting tasks. Boxes, rubber hose, stripping/cutting wire, prepping vegetables, no problems as of yet.
