The Dachshund Breed
Dachshunds are a unique breed of dogs that have been around for centuries. They were originally bred in Germany to be hunting dogs, specifically to hunt badgers and other small game. However, these days they are mostly kept as companion pets due to their adorable appearance and loving personality.
History of Dachshunds as Hunting Dogs
As mentioned earlier, dachshunds were primarily used as hunting dogs in Germany during the 16th century. They excelled at tracking animals underground thanks to their short legs and long bodies, allowing them access into narrow burrows where prey would hide out. Although they may not be used for this purpose anymore, this instinct still remains within them.
Different Types of Dachshunds
There are two types of dachshunds: standard and miniature. Both come with either smooth or wirehaired coats but there is also a third type called the long-haired which features longer hair than the other two types. The main difference between standard and miniature dachshunds is simply size – standard ones typically weigh between 16-32 pounds while minis rarely exceed eleven pounds.
Dachsund Personality Traits
Dachsunsare known for being affectionate towards humans but can also show aggression towards strangers or unfamiliar animals due to their strong territorial tendencies from their history as hunters.They can be very stubborn when it comes training however, with consistent positive reinforcement, it’s possible for most dachsunsd to learn new skills quickly!
